The optional engine is a 3.2-liter V6 that makes 271 horsepower and 239 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. You can pick from front wheel drive or four wheel drive with either engine option. However, the Trailhawk model is four wheel drive only. Jeep has two different four wheel drive systems, the standard system on the Sport, Latitude and Limited models is the Active Drive I 4WD, which requires no input from the driver and does include Jeep's Selec-Terrain dial. The Active Drive II 4WD system is standard on the Trailhawk, this system has low range gearing, a locking gear differential, and adds Rock mode to the Selec-Terrain dial! When it comes to fuel economy, the Cherokee does not disappoint. The four cylinder front wheel drive models get an EPA rated 31 miles to the gallon on the highway and the Cherokees with Active Drive I 4WD system get 28 miles to the gallon on the highway! With the available tow package on all Cherokees, the V6 model can tow up to 4,500 pounds.
